The 'AV Bridge'

Aspect Ratio Conversion, Frame Synchronisation, Standards Conversion, Detail Enhancement and Audio Processing.

The 'AV Bridge' not perhaps the best product name when the product is aimed at the broadcast market, and at Approx. £17,000 fully loaded it would seem to be on the cheap side. But after the demo conducted by Bob Wright of Video International this is a product well worth considering for any hire/facility's company.

For your money you get a 20bit audio processor and 10bit video digital processor which will take any signal format to any other signal format SDI, DV, Composite, YC, Component YpBpRp-RGB it will even accept a SVGA signal. All of these formats except the SVGA signal are available as outputs. All inputs can be routed to any output.

The features and facilities of the unit are as follows:

  • Aspect ratio conversion, comparing this to our current stock of ARC 150's, no differences in both function and process can be seen.
  • Frame Synchronisation, this area of process is one which all the major manufacturers are able to repeat, consistently producing such tools. There are very little differences between them.
  • Standards Conversion, a four line, four field process is employed which replicates our CVR45D and as with the aspect ratio converter, no difference could be seen.
  • In addition to the above the AV Bridge also processes audio. It will de-embed from both the SDI (all groups) and DV inputs. It will re-embed from all analogue and digital inputs. Traditionally we have had to supply a audio delay unit with our conversion boxes to compensate for the delay on the video signal path, with the AV Bridge this is built in, the unit can be set up as an auto system or it can be manually adjusted to compensate for external units, but I'm still trying to work out what other devices you would need.
  • To finish the unit off there is a plethora of process filters, which include motion adaptive, recursive noise reduction 2, and 3D median filter. Detail enhancement both horizontal and vertical. The panel setting can be stored for particular situations. The panel is also well laid out and the menu system is intuitive.

However, serious consideration should be paid to this unit as we feel in hire that there may not be an equivalent unit on the market, which can be compared to the quality and price of the AV Bridge.
